Day 1 : Arrive Paro – Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your Bhutan adventure begins. You'll be warmly greeted by our tour representative who will escort you on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, located approximately 55 km away from Paro. The journey takes about 90 minutes, passing through picturesque landscapes and stopping at Chuzom, where the rivers Thimphu and Paro converge.
In Thimphu, a blend of modernity and traditional Bhutanese culture awaits. After checking into your hotel and a short rest, you'll embark on a leisurely walking tour of the bustling market and main street of Thimphu. Despite its status as Bhutan's largest city with over 100,000 inhabitants, Thimphu famously operates without traffic lights, preserving its unique charm.
Day 2 begins with a visit to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), offering stunning panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley and housing Bhutan's largest Buddha statue. You'll then explore the spiritual sanctuary of King’s Memorial Chorten, where locals circumambulate and spin prayer wheels in devotion.
Changangkha Lhakhang, a historic monastic school perched above Thimphu, follows next, boasting a fortress-like structure and an eleven-headed statue of Chenrezig. The afternoon continues with visits to Thimphu's cultural gems: The Textile Museum showcasing traditional weaving techniques and attire, and Tashichho Dzong, a significant religious and administrative complex renowned for its traditional Bhutanese architecture.
The day concludes with a visit to the Folk Heritage Museum, offering insights into rural life and culture, followed by a shopping expedition at the Handicrafts Emporium and local crafts bazaar.
Day 3 takes you on a scenic three-hour drive from Thimphu to Punakha/Wangdue Phodrang via the breathtaking Dochu La Pass. Admire the majestic views of the Himalayan peaks and visit Punakha Dzong, known as the Palace of Great Happiness, situated at the confluence of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. You'll also explore Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple atop a hillock, and stroll through a traditional village to experience rural Bhutanese life.
Day 4 sees you traveling back to Paro via Dochu La Pass, stopping at Simtokha Dzong, a historic fortress and language school. Upon arrival in Paro, you'll visit Ta Dzong, now the National Museum, housing a rich collection of Bhutanese artifacts and art. A walking tour leads you to Rinpung Dzong, known for its stunning architecture and intricate wall paintings depicting Buddhist teachings.
Day 5 is dedicated to a memorable visit to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliffside 900 meters above the Paro Valley. This iconic site is steeped in legend and revered as a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage destination. Later, explore the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples dating back to the 7th century.
Day 6 concludes your Bhutan journey with breakfast at your hotel followed by departure preparations.
